Hi Workshop People! Welcome to the ax2 Vocal Workshop Blog. What we would like to accomplish with this is improving the communication between members AND give you a place to sign up for your Showcase songs. You can also publicize gigs or important things you would like the group to know.
Everyone has pretty much picked their numbers for the September showcases, but as soon as the November theme is definite, you'll be able to sign up as soon as you know your choices.
I hope you like this idea. I think it will be fun.
Sound idea. I like it and I saved the icon on my desktop, right next to Space Shuttle Discovery's wing tip.

OMG more technology!!!! Ok...hopefully I will participate with this better than I do with Facebook! And, if I don't...it doesn't mean I don't love all of you...I just prefer to love you the old fashioned way...face to face and voice to voice. :)
ReplyDeleteMiss B. Haven
Now if I can just figure out where to go and where to do it. You know me and technology. I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. You know like the little train that could.
ReplyDeleteDiving Madam Q.
Hi Gang:
ReplyDeleteHey Jaynie. The "e" is to the left and up from the "g" on your keyboard! Just kidding you a little. I am looking forward to another possible duet with you in the future. That was fun! Thanks Barb for putting up with me. I've learned a lot.
Gary Smith (BCMC)
Jaynie - Where are you diving???
ReplyDeleteJaynie! Where are you diving!? Do you in and dive together!? :)
ReplyDeleteMiss B
That was supposed to say SING and dive! :) LOL....technical difficulty! and I still can't figure out how to set up my name....do I need a google account to sign in and set it up? HELP!
ReplyDeleteI think there is something that says edit profile or profile or settings, and it asks what your screen name will be.
ReplyDeletebabbs: Duh! What is the theme of our next showcase and does it start tomorrow? Also, where am I?
ReplyDeleteThe Diving Mr. Gary
The theme is "look...Up in the Sky!!!" - songs about things one sees in the sky - sun, moon, stars, clouds, etc. Yes, it starts tomorrow night, Gary. Please don't wear your diving trunks; that would be a bridge too far.
ReplyDeleteBabbs: "Tomorrow night?" Or "tonight?"
ReplyDeleteGary
You all are CRAZY!
ReplyDeleteHello! I helped Babbs set up this blog for you guys to talk about upcoming showcases together. I purposely set it up to not require an account, so you can just choose "name/URL" from the drop-down list below the comment box, or choose "anonymous" and just make sure to include your name within your comment. :)

'Tis enough that my grandchildren make me fumble around with Facebook. This is all too complicated for the elderly. My skill level for interactive technological operations is somewhere in the minus area. . .I shall just forge on in some ridiculous unenlightened fashion knowing only that I do know about adverbs! The Empress
ReplyDeleteDear Empress,
ReplyDeleteI know who you are and it appears you are more adept at technology than you think!!
Learning new technology should keep our minds sharpe and a few of those young people employed answering questions.
Oh, but this is supposed to be about MUSIC!
Hey, anybody still looking for a song for this time around? Here is a list a friend gave me:
ReplyDeleteBoth Sides Now
Up, Up and Away In My Beautiful Balloon
Leavin’ On a Jet Plane
East of the Sun, West of the Moon
Shine On Harvest Moon
Moon River
I Saw Your Face in a Cloud
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Here Comes the Sun
I'm lost in a morphine mist.
ReplyDeleteThe Empress
Empress - Is that a song choice? If so, I want to sing it, too.
ReplyDeleteOk - this is a test. I posted two comments last night and came back today to see if they were there, and they were not. So - I'm not going to say anything interesting until I can see that they actually show up! I'll be back.
ReplyDeleteOK - It says my comment was published, so I shall carry on, sally forth, play through . . . I am choosing Barry Manilow for the next showcase as My Favorite Singer Who Doesn't Get the Respect He Deserves! I am planning to sing "Can't Smile Without You," "I Was a Fool to Let You Go, and a song to be announced. I am doing MUCH better now, and glad to be back. I have missed everyone. If I haven't seen you yet, I will see you soon!
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed the class yesterday. We got in late last night from a Jazz Fest in Costa Mesa, CA. It was a great event and I picked up a couple of songs to sing someday. So many songs, so little time!
ReplyDeleteGary
I am with Julie O in that I posted a comment, but it didn't get published as far as I can see!
ReplyDeleteMy choices for the next session: Ella Fitzgerald, and you KNOW she recorded almost EVERYTHING...so there is lots to choose from.
But my choices are:
1. Do Nothing Till you Hear from Me
2. You Turned the Tables on Me
3. ............duh..........I can't remember the third one at the momemnt, but it's a Duke Ellington.
"Facinanting Rhythm" By GERSHWIN, not Ellington...is my third song! Duh!
ReplyDeleteI want to recommend a television show to everyone's attention: "The Choir" on BBC America. It is a reality show in which a very accomplished (and very young) choirmaster (as the British say) goes into a school and builds a choir from absolute scratch. As some of their publicity says, it is "Glee" for real! In the first series, he took a group of thirty kids to the Choir Olympics in China (who knew there was such a thing!) and this time he is going to build a 100 voice boys choir in a school best known for sports. It is really fun to watch, and often moving. It is on Wednesday nights at 10, though I usually catch it on On Demand on Comcast. Check it out!
ReplyDeleteanita f. here. Barbara, please let me know if you received this along with the other comments. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOK...I'm signing up for my favorite singer, Dinah Washington...I know...big surprise! I'm not sure what songs yet...I can't find music for most of my favorites that she sang, so I may have to choose some of the standards she sang. I'll keep you updated. :)

Hello, Everybody!
ReplyDeleteI am hosting this event, and I think it would be great fun to have you there - and since we are all members of the Ayars Vocal Showcase, we could sing "Lions, and Tigers, and Ayars! Oh, my!" Let me know if you have any questions!
WIZARD OF OZ SING-A-LONG
Get ready to follow the yellow brick road all the way to the Emerald City on Friday, September 24 at 6 PM when Central Lutheran Church hosts the “Wizard of Oz” Sing-a-Long!
IT IS AN ABSOLUTELY FREE EVENT, AND ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!
We will watch the classic 1939 film on the big screen TV in the Fellowship Room, AND sing along with Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion as they go in search of a home, a brain, a heart and courage. Song sheets with the words to all the songs will be provided! If you don’t feel like singing, that’s fine too, but you probably won’t be able to resist all those wonderful familiar songs!
The favorite food of Munchkins (PIZZA!) will be served. You are welcome and encouraged to dress as your favorite character! There will be a prize for the best costume! And there will be a “Wizard of Oz” trivia challenge, so study up and win! Sample question: Which child star did MGM originally want to play Dorothy? Hint: it wasn’t Judy Garland!
So remember – Tap your heels together three times and say “There’s no place like Central” on Friday, September 24 at 6 PM. See you over the rainbow!
Central Lutheran Church is located at 1820 NE 21st Ave., at the corner of 21st and Schuyler, one block off Broadway and directly behind Zeller’s Chapel of the Roses.
Please note: The “Wizard of Oz” Sing-a-Long is a social event, not a religious one. No one will be preached to or preached at! We are just getting together to have some fun, and we hope you will join us.
For more information, please contact event host Julie Osborn at
503 236 7456 or jaosborn838@msn.com or call the Central Lutheran Church office at 503 284 2331.
Julie - Wish I could, but I will be watching and singing along with my Kenny Loggins at Spirit Mountain Casino. Darn! Everything happens at once, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteBabbs, I hope I will be able to come tonight. I am getting very tired of being sick. It is the cough that is hanging on, and I hope it will allow me to come tonight, Nov.1. If not, well have a wonderful rehearsal.
ReplyDeleteGary told me he may be late, assuming I would be there, so here is a heads up for him.
Jaynie
