November Showcases

OK, it is official. The theme of the November showcases will be "My Absolutely, Positively Favorite Singer". Remember your choice can come from any era and any genre, so 40s Jazz is not the only pool from which to draw. Let the games begin!!!

  1. With the theme set, I claim Ella Fitzgerald...YOU know she recorded ALMOST everything...so there is a huge pool to pick from.
    1. "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me"

is a definite one for me!

  2. I'm taking Mabel Mercer for my "favorite singer" project. . .the master of phrasing and teacher to the stars. Haven't narrowed down the songs yet but will send them as soon as possible.

  3. I found all three songs for my November choices:

    1. Fascinating Rhythm
    2. You Turned the Tables on Me
    3. Do Nothing Till you Hear from Me

All recorded by Ella Fitzgerald at some point in her career! The last 2 I have had in mind for a long time and was just waiting for the right "Theme".

  4. Hello, Everybodeee! I'm ba-ack!

I choose Barry Manilow as my favorite singer who doesn't get the respect that he deserves! And my songs will be "Can't Smile Without You" "I Was a Fool to Let You Go" and "Sunrise." Though "Sunrise is a little ifffy - I will see how it goes. I may do the theme from "American Bandstand," as he wrote lyrics to it.

  5. I choose Sarah Vaughn, she could bend a note better than any singer I know. She did so many great songs will be hard to pick but will post them asap.

  6. In other news -

I would like to recommend something for your TV viewing pleasure - a show called "The Choir" on BBC America. On the show, a choir director who seems too young to be as accomplished as he is (but he is!) goes into a school and builds a choir from absolute scratch. In the series that just concluded he takes some high school kids to the Choir Olympics in China. Currently, he is going to be putting together a boys choir at a school that specializes in sports. I think it is on on Wednesday nights, but I always watch it on On Demand. I like to be demanding, anyway. It is my new favorite show. One of the reviewers said, "This is 'Glee' for real, and I think that just about gets it right.

  7. At the 8/7 Workshop someone asked for a good place to find songs. KKAD runs Don Kennedy's Big Band Jump for two hours Sundays. Starts at Noon. I don't mind AM, in fact it sounds more like what America heard and engineers mixed for that low-quality medium. U can listen online also: http://www.1550kkad.com/

  9. At the recommendation of my musical friend John, I'm changing from "Fancinating Rhythm" to
"SLAP THAT BASS".....I hadn't heard of it until today and it's quite fun and uncommon!

Barbara, I want to keep you delighted, entertained and surprised!

  11. Babbs: I will choose Tony Bennett for my singer. Lots of choices from him!

  12. I will take Rosie Clooney. No songs selected as yet.
Can't wait to get back into the swing of things...no pun intended. :)

  13. As for now, I am choosing Carole King. I especially like the song Beautiful. There are so many to choose from.

  14. One Rosie Clooney song I'd like to do: I'll Be Seeing You. Bo plays that rather well. :)

Still working on the 2 others...

  15. I would like to do something from Ed Ames

  16. I'd like to do Rufus Wainwright doing Judy Garland. I know Anita already picked Judy, but this will be different. The songs I am considering are:
    Oh, What a World
Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart
    Hallelujah

I could also pick Nancy King...
